Gramin Vikas Chetna Sansthan organized a ‘Women Artisan Reward Ceremony’ on 08th November, 2015 at GVCS Campus, Barmer in the sate Rajasthan. With a purpose to motivate the women artisans to be more skilled this program was held to honour the women of Thar Desert who are preserving the art and culture of the Desert with their skills.
Barmer District Collector Shri Sudhir Sharma, Deputy Director Department of Women and Child Development Smt Sati Chaudhary, Department of Women’s Empowerment program officer Sh Ashok Goyal and other guests along with female artisans from GVCS participated in the program.
Mrs Rooma Devi, President of GVCS was present on the occasion and interacted with the artisans along with other invitees.
“The women of this area face a lot of trouble to work and live a life with many restrictions, mainly ‘pardah system’. Not every family gives the permission to women to out and work. We always need to support women and motivate them to work for their better future and utilize their own skills. These women make very beautiful bed covers, cushion and pillow covers, curtains, bags, wall hanging etc with their hands,” said Smt Rooma Devi, President of the organization. In the program the products made by women artisans were displayed and used for the decorating and beautifying the venue too to promote and to highlight their talent.
